Investment Philosophy

At heart we are growth orientated, bottom up stock pickers. We seek to identify and purchase promising growth companies. Portfolios are focused on a maximum of fifty holdings and more usually forty.

In selecting individual companies we look for management integrity and vision, coupled with rapid sustainable earnings growth. Of the many measures of profitability and growth our investment managers believe that, return on equity is the most important.

We stress excellence in research. By tapping into personal research networks developed over twenty years and undertaking extensive company and country visits we are able to verify management quality and identify key competitive advantages.

BDT Invest believes that sell disciplines prove even more important than buy disciplines in generating superior long term returns. We run focused portfolios, our investments are forced to fight for their position in the portfolio and we are prepared to admit mistakes early and cut losses.

While we are quite prepared to adopt a medium to long term view, we like stocks; we do not fall in love with them.
